Telephone line cord Power cord Wall mounting adapter 1 Page: 5 5830_CIB_1ATT 2002.11.8 10 : 31 AM Page 2 About Caller Identification ( Caller ID ) This product has a Caller ID with Call Waiting feature that works with BEGIN service from your local phone service provider . Caller ID with Call Waiting lets you see who’s calling before you answer the phone , even when you’re on another call . You may need to change your phone service to use this feature . YOU Contact your phone service provider if : • You have both Caller ID and Call Waiting , but as separate services ( you may need combined service ) BEFORE • You have only Caller ID service , or only Call Waiting service • You don’t subscribe to any Caller ID or Call Waiting services . You can use this product with regular Caller ID service , and you can use this product’s other features without subscribing to either Caller ID or combined Caller ID with Call Waiting service . There are fees for Caller ID services , and they may not be available in all areas . This product can provide information only if both you and the caller are in areas offering Caller ID service , and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment . About the Calls Log This phone assigns each incoming call a number from 1 to 50 at the handset . The most recent call will have the lowest number . When the memory is full , the oldest call information is deleted to make room for new incoming call information . See CALLER ID OPERATION , beginning on page 42 , for more details . If you answer a call before call information appears on the screen , it will not appear in the calls log . About Adding Handsets This product is compatible with the AT & T 5800 Expansion Handset . You may add up to five additional 5800 units ( purchased separately ) to this phone . Follow the instructions provided with the additional handset ( s ) for installation and registration . NOTE : Although you can register up to six handsets , only four • can be used at one time . 2 Page: 6 5830_CIB_1ATT 2002.11.8 10 : 31 AM Page 3 INSTALLATION Table / Desktop Installation NOTE : Install this telephone away from electronic equipment , • INSTALLATION such as personal computers , television sets or microwave ovens . Avoid excessive heat , cold , dust or moisture . 1 Connect the telephone line cord . 2 Connect the power cord . Modular Standard telephone electrical outlet jack Use only the power cord supplied with this product . INSTALLATION a ) Remove battery b ) Align the contacts and compartment cover by place the battery pack in pressing on the raised spot the battery compartment . and sliding downward . c ) Replace cover by sliding it on its track up over battery case until it snaps firmly into place . 4 Charge the handset battery . • Place the handset in the base . • Charge the battery at least 12 hours . After the first charge , the battery will charge in eight hours . 5 Check for dial tone . • After the batteries are charged , lift the handset and press P ; you should hear a dial tone . 4 Page: 8 5830_CIB_1ATT 2002.11.8 10 : 31 AM Page 5 Wall Installation 1 Connect the power cord and telephone line cord to the underside INSTALLATION of the corded base , as shown ( figure a ) . 2 Position the mounting bracket as shown ( figure b ) . figure a 3 Feed the telephone line cord through the hole in the center of the mounting bracket ( figure b ) , align the bracket with the base , and slide into the hole on the base as shown ( figure c ) . 4 Lock the mounting bracket in place ( figure d ) . 5 Plug the telephone line cord into a figure b modular wall jack , and mount the base on the wall ( figure e ) . a ) Align holes on base with mounting studs on wall jack . b ) Place power cord as shown . c ) Pull base down on mounting studs until it locks into place . 6 Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet not controlled by a figure c wall switch ( figure e ) . Use only the power cord supplied with this product . N In the event of a power failure , a fully charged battery in the TIOspare battery compartment will allow you to make and receive calls from the 1 cordless handset only for up to 2 / hours . 2 INSTALLA The spare battery will fully charge in 24 hours . 6 Page: 10 5830_CIB_1ATT 2002.11.8 10 : 31 AM Page 7 Belt Clip You may choose to use the optional belt clip with your handset . NOTE : If you receive an incoming call while in • feature setup , the phone automatically exits the – menu to take the call . SETUP Set Time You can choose to set the time manually , or you i iii ii can allow it to be set automatically with incoming FEATURE Caller ID information . HANDSET During a call , you can adjust the quality of the sound . Pressing repeatedly will cycle you through four different responses . NOTE : The mid - boost setting is hearing - aid • compatible . BASS – Low frequency sounds enhanced . – SETUP MID – Mid - range sounds enhanced . FEATUREp TREBLE – High frequency sounds enhanced . NATURAL – No frequency enhancement . Setting the volume so that no bars show on the graph turns the DSET ringer off . MENU 1 Press , then until the screen highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . OK 2 Press . HAN OK 3 Press when RINGER VOLUME is highlighted . The screen displays – RINGERE i iii ii VOLUM SETUP OK 4 Press or to hear samples of FEATURE ring volumes . OK 5 Press to save the displayed setting . NOTE : Ringer Volume and Vibrate settings are • independent . The Ringer Melody default setting is # 01 ; there are eight Ringer Melody selections . HANDSET MENU 1 Press , then until the screen highlights HANDSET SETTINGS . You will hear a special tone when you reach the highest or lowest N setting . OPERATIO TELEPHONE Speaker During a conversation , press VOL + or VOL - to adjust the base speaker volume . You will hear a special tone when you reach the highest or lowest setting . l j 23 Page: 27 5830_CIB_1ATT 2002.11.8 10 : 31 AM Page 24 Handset Speakerphone When the handset speakerphone is activated , you can use the phone hands - free . Stand the handset on a flat surface ( not in the base ) and continue your conversation . OPERATION NOTE : For best performance , use the handset • speakerphone in a quiet location with the handset facing you from no more than four feet away . Make a Call 1 Press K , then dial the number j p — OR — Dial the number , then press K . TELEPHONE O 2 To end the call , press — OR — Place the handset in the base . j Answer a Call 1 Press K to answer a call . O 2 To end the call , press — OR — Place the handset in the base . Switch Between Handset and Speakerphone While on a call you can press K to switch to speakerphone . While on a speakerphone call , press K to return to the handset . REDIAL 1 Press then press or N to scroll through the numbers in Redial Memory . YES Press to record an announcement to be played when you receive a call from this number ( then follow directions on page 44 ) — OR — j NO Press to exit without recording an announcement . Delete a Redial Number REDIAL 1 Press . j 2 Press or until the screen displays the number you want to delete . SELECT 3 Press . ERASE 4 Press . You will hear a confirmation tone .
